Best Patio Recliner Chair: A Research-Based Buying Guide

The best patio recliner is the one that suits both your preferred resting position and the way you maintain outdoor furniture at home. A wood chair with an adjustable back, a padded folding linked recliner, and a woven cushioned recliner ask different things of your patio, storage space, and daily routine.

This guide compares IKEA NÄMMARÖ reclining chair 505.103.01, Lafuma Evolution BeComfort Dark Grey LFM2871_8902, and Hanover Strathmere Luxury Recliner STRATHREC. They are three different home-patio solutions rather than three interchangeable portable camp chairs. The NÄMMARÖ adjusts its back within a folding wood frame; the Evolution provides linked reclining support; the Strathmere offers a more furniture-like cushioned seat and leg-rest arrangement.

Manufacturer information was reviewed November 6, 2026. We have not tested reclining effort, cushion drying, or long-term finish durability. No fixed price, health benefit, or universal comfort ranking is claimed. Amazon links search the exact model, so verify the selected chair against the maker's description before buying.

Decide which part of the body you want to recline

An adjustable backrest changes upper-body support. An integrated leg-rest system changes lower-body support too. Both can be called reclining chairs, but they do not provide the same posture. Start by deciding whether raised or supported lower legs are essential to your use.

Then consider the ordinary patio activity. Reading upright, talking beside a low table, and taking a quiet reclined break can each favor a different position. More advertised settings are useful only if some of them match your actual activities and body proportions.

Finally, separate seat choice from the weather routine. A chair that folds can still have padding to dry. A durable wood frame can still need finish care. A substantial woven recliner can still need cushions protected between uses. The ownership task should be clear before you choose a fabric color.

Three patio recliners to compare

IKEA NÄMMARÖ 505.103.01: for adjustable wood seating without an integrated footrest

The IKEA US NÄMMARÖ recliner page specifies solid acacia wood with acrylic stain, six back positions, folding construction, a 16.5-inch seat height, and 19.625-inch seat width. Its measurement panel lists a tested-for figure of 243 pounds; read the current model documentation rather than assuming that figure applies to every chair in the series.

It is the candidate to try when you like a rigid wood seat and want to move between more upright and relaxed back positions. Its folding frame also supports a patio that needs to clear after use. The chair does not become an integrated footrest recliner merely because its back adjusts; choose it for the documented function.

The compromise is wood upkeep and any cushion you add. IKEA recommends mild soapy cleaning, wiping dry, protected storage where possible, and periodic restaining. If you want a fully padded chair with built-in leg support, this is a different purchase rather than a less expensive substitute for the same experience.

Lafuma Evolution BeComfort LFM2871_8902: for a padded folding linked recliner

The Evolution BeComfort Dark Grey page describes three-layer padding, clip suspension, an integral headrest cushion, and the absence of crossbars at the top of the back and bottom of the footrest. Published weight is 19.58 pounds, open depth ranges to 63.9 inches, and closed depth is 9.1 inches.

Choose it for consideration when you want a supported linked reclining position but also expect to fold the chair away. The open-ended head and lower-support arrangement is a specific fit feature worth trying rather than assuming every recliner's bars meet the body in the same place.

Its limitation is that folding does not make the broad chair disappear. Check closed width and height as well as thickness, and decide where the padded seat will dry after outdoor use. The manufacturer's quick-drying description is not a measured drying time for your climate. Confirm the exact user limit from the supplied current documentation before purchase when capacity is a deciding requirement.

Hanover Strathmere STRATHREC: for a cushioned patio-furniture recliner

The Strathmere Luxury Recliner page identifies three adjustable angles, a steel frame under hand-woven polyethylene resin, and cushions on the back, seat, and leg rests. Hanover specifies Olefin upholstery and says the chair arrives preassembled. Its listed deep-seat dimensions are 25 inches long, 21 inches wide, and 17 inches high.

It is the candidate to investigate when you want a substantial furnished patio seat rather than a chair folded after every visit. The distributed cushions and coordinated collection can suit a dedicated conversation zone. Evaluate the actual three settings, since their usefulness matters more than the number itself.

The limitation is a larger ownership commitment in cushions, placement, and moving the chair when necessary. Do not confuse shipping weight with chair weight or a collection-wide rating with this model's limit. Use the current STRATHREC specification and supplied care guide for those decisions, and confirm the selected cushion color.

A weekday patio-use sheet

Create three rows titled morning coffee, afternoon reading, and evening conversation or rest. For each row, write whether your feet should stay on the ground, whether you need lower-leg support, and where the nearby table will be. These are functional requirements rather than imagined ideal postures.

Now try each candidate's relevant positions. With NÄMMARÖ, identify which back settings suit the tasks and whether a separate approved support is needed for anything else. With Evolution, assess the linked lower support and head contact. With Strathmere, compare how the back, seat, and leg-rest cushions align through its three settings.

Add a line for standing and returning to the chair. A position that feels pleasant during a long rest can be inconvenient if the evening involves frequent trips indoors. Do not select only the deepest recline and assume the other transitions will be comfortable.

Finish with a brief weather action under each row: what happens if a shower arrives, if the chair is wet when you want it, or if the patio needs to clear? The different material and folding arrangements should produce different answers. That is the central home-patio comparison.

Plan for the full deployed shape

Draw the chair where it will be used and include every position you intend to select. Check the backrest's movement toward a wall and the lower support's movement toward the walking route. Use the exact model's maximum depth and operating instructions rather than transferring a generic recliner clearance.

For the Evolution, a hypothetical 100-inch clear patio strip minus its published 63.9-inch maximum open depth leaves 36.1 inches in total. That remainder is before required operating clearance, entry space, and other furniture. It is not a recommended walkway or a promise that the chair fits the strip safely.

A wood chair with an adjustable back can create a different obstacle behind it even without an integrated footrest. A cushioned furniture recliner can create a long lower section when deployed. Walk the actual route to the house while the chair is in its intended position before approving the layout.

Place a side table where it serves the most frequent use. If it only works when upright, decide whether moving it before reclining is acceptable. Avoid arranging a heavy recliner so every change of position requires rearranging a whole conversation group.

Make cushion contact part of the trial

For reading, hold a book at the height you normally use. Notice whether your head, shoulders, and elbows settle comfortably or whether the selected recline makes the task harder. A relaxed posture for looking into the garden may differ from one that suits a chapter of a book.

Check the lower support where provided. It may meet the calf, ankle, or heel differently for different users. The Evolution's lack of a bottom crossbar is a reason to evaluate its actual contact pattern, not a guarantee of comfort for every tall person.

Try the chair with the actual cushions intended for it. A universal pad can change seated height, depth, and arm relationship. Do not stack cushions to compensate for a fundamental mismatch, and keep fabric ties clear of moving parts. Choose a compatible accessory based on the chair maker's guidance.

If two people share one recliner, record both trials. A position that suits one person's torso and leg proportions can be unsuitable for the other. A shared furniture purchase should meet both users' essential needs rather than treating an average body size as a real occupant.

Three different care commitments

For NÄMMARÖ, IKEA's current care directions emphasize cleaning, wiping dry, limiting unnecessary exposure, and restaining as needed, with once or twice yearly given as an example. Build that finish work into ownership. A wood frame's natural appearance is part of the appeal and part of the responsibility.

For Evolution BeComfort, maintain the padding and clip-connected sling according to Lafuma's instructions. Keep the correct model identifier for future replacement fabric. A replaceable seat is useful when a matching part is available; it does not justify fitting an unrelated sling or changing the suspension.

For Strathmere, distinguish the resin weave, underlying steel, foam, and Olefin cover. Use Hanover's current care guide for the exact cushions and frame. A water-resistant fabric surface does not make all internal foam waterproof or establish permission for any laundering method.

Plan a drying location before buying. A covered patio, outdoor storage box, and indoor garage provide different airflow and space. Do not assume placing a wet cushion in a closed box is the same as protecting a dry cushion between uses. Follow the product's drying and storage guidance.

A useful ownership comparison without invented cost claims

List the items you will actually purchase: chair, approved cushion if separate, protective cover if needed, delivery placement, and any assembly assistance. Do not add accessories simply because they appear in a styled image. Compare the complete configuration required for your own patio.

Next list recurring tasks rather than guessing a lifetime cost. Wood finish attention, cushion drying, seasonal folding, and moving a substantial frame can matter more to you than a small difference in the purchase total. The goal is a routine you are likely to follow.

Confirm the seller's return conditions for a careful fit assessment. Large patio furniture can involve freight, packaging requirements, and assembly restrictions. Read those terms before discarding cartons or ordering multiple matching chairs.

Choose the recliner that fits home use

Start with NÄMMARÖ when adjustable wood seating and folding are the priorities, Evolution BeComfort for a padded linked recliner that stores flat, or Strathmere for a furnished patio seat with back, seat, and leg-rest cushioning.

This guide does not attach a hard budget to any model because the delivered total varies by seller, upholstery, and location. Let the weekday-use sheet, deployed layout, and material-care commitment explain the purchase. A recliner earns its patio space when it works through the ordinary week as well as the most relaxed moment.
