Two mechanisms create two fit decisions
The best recliner rocking chair needs to work as a rocker while upright and as a supported seat when the legrest opens. A pleasant rocking motion does not correct an uncomfortable head cushion, and a deep reclining position does not guarantee comfortable upright movement. Test the two jobs separately before comparing covers or extras.

La-Z-Boy Pinnacle 010512 is the smaller padded option, La-Z-Boy Randell 010777 is the extra-tall option, and Ashley Kegler 4450425 is a deep-seated pull-tab alternative. All are manual rocking recliners in the specified versions. The phase-by-phase worksheet below follows the ordinary sequence from upright rocking to recline and back again, exposing compromises that a single showroom pose can hide.
This is a research-based buying guide, not a hands-on test. We compared the linked manufacturer specifications and current product documentation on November 6, 2026. Recommendations reflect the fit and ownership tradeoffs below; published dimensions do not establish personal comfort, long-term durability or a medical outcome.

Chairs worth comparing for this use
1. La-Z-Boy Pinnacle Rocking Recliner 010512
Best for: For a smaller conventional rocking recliner.
Pinnacle 010512 is the starting point when a broad oversized chair would crowd the room. Its 33-inch width and 18.5-inch seat height give a meaningfully smaller comparison than the other two models.
The manual Pinnacle 010512 rocks when its legrest is not engaged and provides separate back reclining. Its three locking legrest positions and padded chaise distinguish it from a fixed wooden rocker. It is not the Pinnacle 016512 wall chair or 017512 swivel glider. The 19-inch seat width is also a potential limitation. Check your seated clearance rather than assuming a plush chair has generous cushion space. La-Z-Boy specifies rocking when the legrest is not engaged; the legrest has three locking positions, and the back can recline separately. Product Details
| Brand | La-Z-Boy |
|---|---|
| Overall dimensions | 33 W ×38.5 D ×41 H inches |
| Seat dimensions | 19 W ×21.5 D inches |
| Seat height | 18.5 inches |
| Fully extended | 66 inches |
| Rear clearance | Approximately 12 inches |
Pros
- Modest outer width for a fully padded recliner
- Independent back adjustment within a manual mechanism
Cons
- 19-inch seat may be restrictive for a broader user
- Manual closing effort and handle reach can rule it out
Choose this when both its upright rocking posture and its attached leg support suit the user. Specify 010512 rather than a similarly styled wall or swivel-gliding Pinnacle.
2. La-Z-Boy Randell Rocking Recliner 010777
Best for: For extra-tall proportions and longer leg support.
Randell’s higher seat, taller back and extra-long legrest create a different body-fit option. Its 75-inch full extension is 9 inches longer than Pinnacle’s, which is a useful reason for taller users to compare the actual supported leg position.
Randell is the larger manual rocker in this comparison. The manufacturer identifies an extra-tall back, elongated handle, tall base and extended legrest, and places it in its extra-tall scale category for people 6 feet 3 inches and above. The 45.5-inch outer width is substantial, and its 24-inch seat does not justify choosing it solely as a large-looking statement chair. Its 21.5-inch seat height needs an occupied fit check, especially if shorter household members also use it. The model-specific specification source is linked in this guide.

|---|---|
| Overall dimensions | 45.5 W × 41.5 D × 46.5 H inches |
| Seat dimensions | 24 W × 22 D inches |
| Seat height | 21.5 inches |
| Fully extended | 75 inches |
| Rear clearance | Approximately 12 inches |
Pros
- Tall-oriented back and extended legrest
- Longer handle and high base are part of the specified design
Cons
- Large room and delivery footprint
- Fixed back contour may still miss a particular user’s head or torso
Choose Randell for a verified proportion problem that a smaller rocker cannot solve. Do not assume every tall person needs the same depth or that a bigger cushion always feels better.
3. Ashley Kegler Manual Rocker Recliner 4450425
Best for: For a deep seat and a pull-tab control.
Kegler offers another manual control format and a 23-inch listed seat depth. It may suit someone who prefers a deeper seated position, but its 18-inch distance between arms is narrower than either La-Z-Boy candidate.
Kegler 4450425 is a manual rocker recliner with polyester upholstery, attached cushions, foam wrapped in poly fiber and a reinforced metal seat box. Its broad body should not be mistaken for a wide seat: Ashley lists only 18 inches between the arms. Its 39-inch overall width and 45-inch upright depth create a broad, deep body without the widest usable seat. The 21-inch seat height is another specific fit dimension to compare. Ashley lists 70 inches fully reclined and 12 inches between the chair and wall. The model-specific specification source is linked in this guide.
Product Details
| Brand | Ashley |
|---|---|
| Overall dimensions | 39 W ×45 D ×42 H inches |
| Seat dimensions | 18 W ×23 D inches between arms |
| Seat height | 21 inches |
| Fully reclined length | 70 inches |
| Rear clearance | 12 inches |
Pros
- Specific seat, extended-length and wall-gap measurements
- Pull-tab control offers a different reach task from an outside handle
Cons
- Deep seat may leave shorter users sitting forward
- Broad body should not be mistaken for a broad cushion
Choose 4450425 only after checking its narrow between-arm measurement and deep seat. A pull tab is useful if it is genuinely easier for the intended user to locate and operate.
The four-phase trial worksheet
Write four rows: upright still, upright rocking, ordinary recline and return upright. For each row, record head contact, foot or lower-leg support, arm position and control effort. Use the same sequence in every candidate. That creates a comparison based on the whole routine rather than the first pleasant movement a salesperson demonstrates.
In the still phase, settle fully back and check whether the head cushion feels natural. In the rocking phase, use only normal movement within the manufacturer’s instructions and notice whether the feet can make appropriate contact. In recline, check the leg support and the back together. Finally, close the legrest and return to the position used for leaving the chair.
If one phase fails, describe it precisely. A handle that requires awkward reaching is different from a footrest that feels short. A seat that is too deep is different from a rocking motion you simply do not enjoy. The written distinction helps determine whether another size, another control or a completely different seating format deserves comparison.
Seat depth can matter more than the rocker label
Pinnacle lists 21.5 inches of seat depth, Randell 22 inches and Kegler 23 inches. Those figures are close enough to seem minor in a catalog yet can feel different for a person who already struggles to sit fully back in a sofa. Cushion compression and contour still affect the occupied depth, so the numbers should guide a trial rather than settle it.
A deeper chair is not automatically a taller chair. It may place the knee edge farther away without moving the head support into the right position. Likewise, a high seat may make foot contact less comfortable for a shorter user. Compare the relationship between lower-body position and head contact instead of choosing the largest dimensions in every column.
Seat width is a separate screen. Kegler’s 18-inch space between arms, Pinnacle’s 19-inch seat and Randell’s 24-inch seat should not be inferred from their 39-,33-and 45.5-inch outer bodies. If a user needs a particular cushion width, eliminate unsuitable candidates before comparing the style or the appeal of the rocking motion.
Rocking and recline may have different operating conditions
Manufacturers can change how a base moves when a legrest is opened. La-Z-Boy’s linked manual rocker descriptions specify gentle rocking when the legrest is not engaged. Do not assume a model that both rocks and reclines will allow unrestricted rocking in every position. Ask the dealer to demonstrate the exact operating conditions and show the relevant manual.
A chair sold in manual and powered versions may also use different controls and movement sequences. The comparison here concerns the specified manual models. If you try a manual chair and order a powered version with an adjustable headrest, repeat the fit and room checks. A similar outline is not proof that the entire mechanism or dimensions remain identical.
Never defeat a stop or modify a base to obtain more motion. If you dislike a chair’s permitted sequence, select another design. A working mechanism should not require wedging, an added block or a household alteration to provide the motion you expected from the product description.
Plan the changing footprint, not just the parked chair
The published full extensions are 66 inches for Pinnacle,75 inches for Randell and 70 inches for Kegler. All three linked descriptions use approximately 12 inches of rear space for these rocker configurations. Use the exact supplied instructions and installed travel; do not replace them with the smaller gaps advertised for different wall-recliner models.
For an illustrative first check, adding those nominal rear gaps gives 78 inches for Pinnacle,87 inches for Randell and 82 inches for Kegler from the rear wall to the extended front. These are planning sums, not universal aisle requirements or exact occupied travel measurements. They show why the tallest option can force a different coffee-table position.
Then draw a separate walking route. A remainder between the footrest and another object is not automatically an appropriate passage. Keep a table out of the legrest’s travel, and check the handle or pull-tab side where the chair will actually sit. Rocking beside a table should not make a previously reachable control inaccessible or create repeated contact with an arm.
Match the control to the user’s real effort
Try opening and closing, not only opening. A manual chair can feel effortless in one direction and demanding in the other. Pinnacle and Randell use an outside handle; Kegler has a pull tab. The relevant comparison is whether the user can find and operate the actual control comfortably at the intended sitting angle.
Do not expect repeated use to make an unsuitable motion acceptable. If returning upright or closing the legrest is difficult, consider another mechanism or obtain appropriate individual advice. A manual rocker is not stand assistance, and its padded arms should not be assumed to make transfers suitable for every person with balance or strength limitations.
If the main need is help standing, investigate a professionally fitted lift chair rather than treating rocking as an equivalent feature. If the main need is only a gentle upright motion, a nonreclining rocker or glider may be simpler. Buying for the actual task reduces the chance of paying for an attached legrest you seldom use.
Approve the exact chair you evaluated
Record the model, cover and mechanism on the final order: Pinnacle 010512, Randell 010777 or Kegler 4450425. For each, identify the upholstery cleaning instructions and the delivery service. Kegler’s page lists a minimum delivery doorway figure, but a tight stair turn or hallway still needs route-specific assessment. Obtain carton or component dimensions if those are limiting.
At installation, repeat the four phases with the furniture and rug in place. Stop if moving parts rub, the chair strikes an obstruction or a control behaves inconsistently. Contact the seller for approved correction. Choose Pinnacle for its smaller padded footprint, Randell for a demonstrated tall-body fit, or Kegler for its particular deep-seat and pull-tab combination after all four phases work for the intended user.
